Engaging Children & Families
for a Better Future
Our Mission
Head Start, a family development program, empowers children and families providing comprehensive services as tools for success now and in the future.
Education
Learning environments at Head Start are nurturing, hands-on, real-life spaces that support the development of all young children. The classrooms include age-appropriate play areas, developmentally appropriate schedules, supplies, indoor and outdoor opportunities for choice, play, exploration, and experimentation. A high-quality, research-based curriculum is also utilized to promote measurable progress toward each child’s development and school readiness.
Family Partnerships
Family well-being occurs when all family members are safe, healthy, and have chances for educational advancement and financial stability. Family Advocacy and Development services not only help families access community resources, they also assist in engaging families as active participants in problem-solving and goal-setting which can help them identify and use their own strengths as support in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
Health & Nutrition
Health is the foundation of school readiness. To help children thrive, Head Start staff ensure that children are up to date on Physical and Dental Exams, immunizations schedule, learn about good nutrition and healthy habits, and have access to community resources necessary to care for their families.
Mental Health
The mental health of children and the adults that care for them is essential for school readiness. It is important for a child to learn and gain the capacity to express and regulate emotions, form trusting relationships, explore, and learn. Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the mental health of children, families, and staff every day.
Special Needs
Young children vary in their skills, abilities, knowledge, and backgrounds. Effective teaching may require individualized support so that all children can participate and thrive in early learning settings. Head Start can provide these effective teaching strategies for children with disabilities and other special needs.
Activities
Parent involvement is important in the success of a child’s education. Head Start provides several opportunities to engage in the classroom, take part in school family activities, as well as for parents to use their voice to make choices regarding your child’s school.
